Essential Self Improvement Help: Preparing For A Job Interview

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Once you get the call for the job interview, the next thing that you have to do is prepare for it. The more prepared you are, the harder it will be to make mistakes. It is best to prepare yourself emotionally as well as intellectually for an interview. Giving a great interview is not as hard as some may think, but not as easy as others do either. Here are a few things that must be done in order to prepare for your next interview.

Remember, during an interview you are there to sell yourself to your prospective employer. You want to market yourself in the most interesting way possible.

It doesn’t matter how much knowledge or experience you have about the position that you are trying to get in a company if you don’t have a clue who the company is or what they do. It is disastrous to enter into an interview and not be able to tell your interviewer what their company is about. How else are you going to tell them why you feel that you would be a good addition to their company?

A good and less time consuming way to get to know about a company is to look up their website.
You can also look them up in the media files if there are any. Read the articles about them and soak in as much information as possible. Another thing that would be nice to do is to check out the surrounding area around the company. It makes for a nice breaker during the interview. You can make a comment about a particular monument or resting place nearby.

When called for an interview, ask to whom you will be talking to. It is nice to be able to greet your interviewer by name at the beginning of the interview without first being told who they are. It shows that you are on top of things, and have prepared before hand.

You will also want to do some research on the person that will be conducting your interview. Learn what they do for the company and try to get some samples of their work or achievements in the company.

If you know what department that you are going to work in you may want to get the names of your potential colleagues and superiors prior to the interview as well. This way you can get some information about their roles in the company and the types of work that they have done.

Mention some of the things that you learn about your potential colleagues in the interview and about how much you look forward to working with them in the future. If you can, give an example of their work so that you will appear more sincere.

It is best, if you are prone to nervousness, to practice giving your responses to the questions that may be asked of you. You should practice your wording and the tone of voice that you plan to use; Try keeping your responses as brief as possible, but with as much detail as you can.

When you are trying to work out the proper responses to the interviewer’s questions, you will also want to practice the art of getting your nerves under control as well as ridding yourself of any other odd habits while talking; like expressing yourself with your hands.

Practice answering your interview questions with a friend. Get his or her opinion about your delivery and gestures. Perhaps your friend will have some nice insights for you to use during the real interview.

Focus On Your Mental And Emotional Side: Practical Self Help Guide

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Not everyone believes this but the emotional and mental aspects of a person, when combined, leads to better self improvement.

Emotions love to dominate our actions and reactions, even when we do not want it to happen sometimes. Society often see emotions as a sign of weakness, so people are used to putting them aside and focusing on the rational aspects more and more.

No matter how strict and logical you may be, you will always feel. One way or another, someone or something will get through you.

Positive emotions are a lifelong goal for many of us concerned about emotional health and self improvement. What is more important; the amount of money you made during your life or the times you laughed out of sheer joy?

People tend to put their positive emotions behind their negative feelings. This is one of the biggest problems that people come across during their lives.

There is no clear way to ignore a negative experience and try to replace it with a positive one. Life just does not work that way.

A fight with your spouse the night before will affect your entire day. You will go to work angry, tired, and your mind will wander. On the way home from work you will be oblivious the sun shining vegetables.

All this because that one negative thought has contaminated the way you perceive the reality around you.

In this moment you will realize finding a safe place to relax your mind will do wonders for your emotional and mental improvement.

That place is relatively easy to find. It can be an actual place or an imaginary location. The best idea is to totally lose yourself in it.

Let us say you have a problem on your mind and it just would not go away. Go bowling. Do not know how? Just give it a shot. Get caught up in the game. Your mind will drift away from the negative thoughts that dominated your last hours or days and start processing a whole new kind of information.

A safe haven can take many forms. It can be a song, a movie, even a person or animal. The main thing is allow yourself to get completely involved with this new activity.

You might still get flashes of the problem every now and then. Ignore it and get even more absorbed in what you are doing.

When the bowling game, the song, or the movie ends you will abruptly return to reality. You will probably want to retreat back to the safe place. Do not do it.

The safe place exists only as a helping hand, not as a solution to your life’s problems, may it be a small or big. It serves only as an escape route.

You will return from your safe zone with an increased energy level. You will feel better about yourself and gain more confidence. You will see that any issue can be resolved.

This is how a small escape from a harsh reality can increase your emotional and mental health. Try to do this often and you are on your way to better self improvement.

American Symbols

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

American symbols represent the heart and soul of American culture. One of our country’s most common symbols is the bald eagle and the Statue of Liberty. There are symbols that represent segments of American culture and life. For example, if you’re a southerner, the Confederate flag might be an American symbol for you. But if you are an African American you most likely find the Confederate flag to be deeply insulting. It’s important to keep symbolism in perspective. The symbols of America are just that: symbols. The only thing that gives them real power is our belief in them, and we can never let that belief become more important than our ties to each other. With the right purpose, national symbols can be quite beneficial increasing the ties between each citizen. But symbols with separatist views, even the most beneficent of American symbols can be an invite to discord and tyranny.

Take that most well known of American symbols: the Statue of Liberty. This symbol of American freedom, given to us from the French, from whose philosophers are modern ideas of freedom come from, stands proudly at one of the greatest entry ways for immigrants in the world: New York Harbor.

Native American symbols are something different all together. While the flag, the bald eagle, and lady liberty symbolize our country culture, Native American symbols have come to symbolize our country’s spiritual past. Native American symbols have been used to represent all kinds of neo-pagan religious revivals, becoming symbols not just of the peoples that used them, but also of modern religious movements. Whatever the use of these Native American symbols, it is interesting to see how an ancient idea can be reincarnated and integrated into our modern culture.

Top Self Help Advice: 7 Ways To Improve Your Communication

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Everyone can be a better communicator. What better way to begin learning to be an effective communication than to know the very person closest to you: yes, that’s yourself.

1. What you know.
Education is all about learning the basics, but to be an effective speaker is to practice what you’ve learned. My stint as guest at every Toastmasters’ meeting I go to taught me that we all have our limitations, but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn to keep up and share what we know.

2. Listening.
It’s just as important as asking questions. Sometimes listening to the sound of our own voice can teach us to be a little bit more confident with ourselves and to say the things we believe in with conviction.

3. Humility
We all make mistakes. Sometimes we might slur our words, stutter, or mispronounce certain words even though we know what they mean. So in a group, don’t be afraid to ask if you’re saying the right word properly and if they’re unsure about it then make a joke out of it. I promise you it’ll make everyone laugh and you can get away with it as well.

4. Eye Contact
There’s a lot to say when it comes to directing your attention to your audience with an eye-catching gaze. It’s important that you keep your focus when talking to a large group in a meeting or a gathering. Maintain eye contact for a few seconds they move on to make eye contact with someone else in the audience.

5. Kidding around
A little bit of humor can do wonders to ease the tension, or worse boredom when making a speech. That way, you’ll get the attention of the majority of the crowd and they’ll feel that you’re just as approachable, and as human to those who listen.

6. Be like the rest of them
Interaction is all about mingling with other people. You’ll get a lot of ideas, as well as knowing what makes these people tick.

7. Me, Myself, and I
Admit it, there are times you sing to yourself in the shower. I know I do! Listening to the sound of your own voice while you practice your speech in front of a mirror can help correct the stress areas of your pitch. And while you’re at it you can spruce up as well.

Kabbalah Symbols - Custom, Faith And Beliefs

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

The following extract is from a series of ancient symbolism articles, tips, videos and information about Kabbalah symbols

Kabbalah symbols mean something to the followers of the Jewish faith, just as Christian symbols mean something to Christian followers. The tree of life symbol and the Kabbalah red string bracelet are symbols that are recognized within the Jewish community as a part of Kabbalah faith. The Kabbalah talisman means something more than just a pretty part of a necklace. It has a unique meaning and signifies a history within the Kabbalah faith that cannot be mistaken for sheer bling and glitz no matter what superstar wears it as decoration.

Regarding Kabbalah symbols, the tree of life symbol was originally called the Etz haChavim and is looked upon as a road map to creation. It is a representation of a tree and how we are all joined together as one. We all come from the same common root and are all interconnected in the same tree even when we are experiencing different branches of life.

The Kabbalah tree, or the tree of life symbol, is called the diagram of the Sephiroth and is a drawing of how creation came to be. It comes from the sacred texts of Sefer Yetzirah, Bahir, and the most widely known, the Zohar. It would be quite impossible to explain without drawings how the tree of life symbols actually look since so many of the texts differ on the numbers, path and even plants that the Sephot actually represent. It is a matter of which representation of the books and beliefs that the tree of life actually takes on that make up the life pathways for the drawings themselves. You would need to look it up to know.

Christianity has its cross. Those who follow different religions each have symbols that they believe to be sacred. Kabbalah symbols, such as the Kabbalah tree are no different. It takes on a life of its own to those who follow Kabbalah and truly believe in the representations of each of the branches that originate from the words and inscriptions. The red string Kabbalah bracelet is more than just a piece of jewelry. It is a representation of history and a way to understanding the path to creation for the Kabbalah follower to mediate upon.

Instant Promise Of Time Management

Monday, April 21st, 2008

The quest of personal time management… What really is the secret for success?

Effective time management requires many little parts that together add up to a mature and natural time management skill.

Effective time managers all do certain similar things that allow them to succeed. What are those ‘things’ of effective time mangers?…

After much research and attempting to apply stress management to personal time management, I realised there are a lot of Chinese whispers to sort through.

My blog contains many personal thoughts about personal time management. I can suggest you begin at time management system.

And here’s a few tips off the top of my head.

Know what you want to achieve.

Organize your life around the things you really want.

Use a timer to keep you mindful of the passage of time.

Use use your natural talent for sensible to-do lists to keep you active on your projects.

As a boy I felt the desire for robot like self control.

But by 15 years old I discovered I’m ‘only human’. I realized that to be human is to be flexible.

My Time Management Skill

I have read about the zen notion of a ‘mind like water’. I have to confess I’m not quite there yet.

But this weekend I spent 70% of my waking time being productive. I’ve accomplished a lot in this one weekend. Sometimes I just need more of a break so chill with friends.

Unfortunately, time management skills training is often very bad. I know because I’ve taken a lot of it. They repeat the same old same old. Then I discovered that I need to find my own natural time management skill.

What does it mean to ‘manage time’?

We can’t take a clock and slice it up into well managed bite sized pieces, like we could a cake.

Managing time happens as a natural skill when you understand the rock and water analogy of a new time management paradigm.

Here’s a hint, do not schedule activities to time. And do not prioritize activities by so called ‘importance’.

Your time is the most precious commodity you have got. You can earn more money. You can buy more things. But your life, under today’s level of technology, will end at an average life expectancy of 75.

That’s no way to run a universe. But until life extension technologies are in commercial use, we are going to have to make the most of what little time we have got.

To successfully time manage you must start from that awareness. How much time you have in life.

From their your natural and honest skill of managing time will develop.

Then, to manage time, you can identify the big things you want to spend your time on, where your time goes currently, and put together a schedule of managed time.

See time management training for much more, and to find out exactly how I achieved time management success: time management training.

On my blog you will find a few free time management videos plus access to a time management self-assessment. Take that quiz and you will instantly know your weakest areas of time management skill, plus exactly what to do about it.

Handcrafted Silver Cremation Urns

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

The remains of a cremation, called cremains by experts, are actually not “ashes” as most of the public believes but pulverized dried bone fragments. The phrase cremation refers to burning a corpse in crematory fire

Cremation is an alternative to the interment of an body in the casket and may serve as a funeral or post funeral rite. The ashes do not pose a health risk and can be immured in cemeteries but also in retained by relatives or dispersed in a variety of ways.

The reason for choosing a cremation instead of a burial are manifold. Apart from religious believes some reasons could be mentioned. Cremation is not as cost intensive as a burial and does not require that much preparation for the relatives. Some people are not attracted to traditional burials mainly because of the unappealing though of a slow decomposition process.

Cremation Urns

The cremated remains are normally returned to relatives in a cardboard box or in a cremation urn if the relatives did purchase one prior to the cremation.

This is actually a tip to purchase the urn before the actual cremation takes places to avoid having to move the remains afterwards.

Some of the most popular crematory urns are Wooden Cremation Urns which have the advantage of being not that expensive but on the other hand still handcrafted for a unique experience. Solid handmade wooden urns can normally bought for $50+ Dollars depending on the type of wood that is used and the artwork.

Cremains can be kept in an urn, sprinkled on a special field, mountain, in the sea, or buried in the ground at any location. In addition, there are several services which will scatter the cremated remains in a variety of ways and locations.
