Visit the Jackson Zoo while in Mississippi
One of the most popular places to visit in all of Mississippi is the Jackson Zoo, located in the city of Jackson. It is the second largest zoo in the state, and is visited by more than 200,000 people each year. Children and adults love the zoo. The zoo was opened in 1919, and is located on Livingston Park and sits on 110 acres. Currently, only 52 acres of the zoo are developed, which means that there is plenty of room for expansion and more habitats for animals. People who visit the zoo will be treated to more than seven hundred animals from around the world. In all, 126 different species inhabit the zoo. Some of the animals at the zoo are endangered, including the Sumatran tiger, African elephants, and snow leopards. These are some wonderful and rare animals, and the zoo is actively involved in the conservation of these as well as other species. Guests who find themselves feeling hungry can stop and eat at any of the food stands scattered around the zoo, or at the Elephant House Café. They can also shop at the gift shop to make sure that they have some souvenirs to remember their trip.
