It’s interesting that our young people now have weight challenges. At a time in their life when weight shouldn’t be an issue, worldwide concerns exist.
Used to be a time when children had to go outside and play in order to have fun. Yet now in this day and age we see overweight and obesity in children of all ages, because instead of taking the time to go outside and play they are more enthusiastic about sitting around playing on their computer or playing their favorite video game. This may be because most children are now being raised in large cities instead of a more rural area; however, even rural area children have adapted the same epidemic as these other children, caused by overeating and lack of exercise.
Of course there are many factors behind this state of affairs and fast food is one of them. Fast foods are not really good for people of any age as they usually contain excessive amounts of fats and carbohydrates which can add many pounds to a person.
Unfortunately, people in general place a great deal of “weight” on people’s outward appearance. That could be a good or bad thing. As parents we need to talk to our children and help them eat healthy foods and get plenty of activity. Having a time set aside sometime during the day to get some sort of workout, and maybe once or twice a week take them to the gym. Simple walks or runs outdoors work wonders too.
Instead of eating at the local fast food, when you go shopping, buy healthier foods for dinner. This type of food is especially good for parents who have come home from work and do not feel like cooking. It is also a good idea to have plenty of rice cakes around for them to snack on.
One of the main causes of weight loss teenagers are soft drinks. Soft drinks have been known to cause high blood pressure, as well as other ailments. Hey, what happened to good old water to drink? Neglecting to eat certain meals such as breakfast or lunch can create weight gain too.
It has been observed that is children are in the company of adults, especially their parents, they will eat less junk. Children who live in homes where the parents are divorced will eat more, mainly from depression. Obesity is not inherited from the parents, but more from things including boredom, sadness, and anxiety, lack of sleep. Overweight or obesity tends to be more common in girls than it is in boys.
Being obese tends to lead down the road to illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep disorders, cancer, liver disorders, skin infections and asthma.
Here’s a teen weight loss tip: How about setting a good example for young ones? Fill your plate at mealtimes with perhaps a lean piece of meat (not over 8 ounces), plenty of vegetables, a big fresh, raw salad and maybe a starchy food like potatoes. If you’re adventurous, opt out eating the potatoes and see how quickly weight isn’t an issue any more. Best wishes!
