Photo Printers

Now that almost everyone owns a digital camera, printing quality photos at home is the next step. A few years back the paper was too expensive, the printers were too complicated and the color quality was not nearly as good as the professional places but technology has put more power in the hands of the user. Photo printers are now cheaper than ever and can print out quality color photos faster than before.

Photo printers are special dedicated printers that print images from digital cameras. A photo printer has a wider color spectrum than the standard black, cyan, magenta, and yellow of ink jet printers to render true photo quality output.

Because photo printing has exploded, manufacturers have been quick to satisfy demand with unique solutions that target specific scenarios. For example, you can now purchase travel-friendly photo printers, about twice the size of a typical digital camera that can print 4”x6” photos on the fly making them perfect companions on a business trip or vacation.

Many printers now support digital-camera media cards such as Memory Stick, Secure Digital (SD), and Compact Flash (CF) directly, negating the need for a personal computer. Such printers often include an LCD display that lets you view pictures before printing and even perform simple editing, such as cropping.

If you only plan to print a few photos here and there — sending a few to relatives during the holidays, for example — then a dye sublimation printer could be your best choice. If you’ll be printing lots of photos, or want the versatility of printing text documents too, consider an inkjet model. Just remember that a printer optimized for photo printing will do a significantly better job at that than a general-use printer. Dye Sub Printers (Dye Sublimation Printers) are high-end printers for photo-realistic images. Quality photo printing is led by these higher priced, quality photo makers.

Photo printers make pictures that look as if they came straight from the print lab!
